The Polar Plunge

My son Qi and I did the Polar Plunge Saturday in Galveston Texas. Yes, I know, all of my Northern readers are scoffing at the notion of a Texas Polar Plunge. Let me just say that I get cold very easily. If it's under 70 degrees I have a coat on, and my feet are always cold. I actually sleep with a heating pad most of the year. I won't go in pools or bodies of water unless it is June-August. It was 45 degrees in Galveston when we did the plunge into even colder salt water, and I was COLD.  I believe 45 degrees Houston weather is equivalent to 0 in Northern weather.
The plunge was for the Special Olympics, and each plunger had to raise at least $60 in order to plunge. I was fully funded by a wonderful friend, and my son Qi was fully funded by a friend of the person who funded me. I believe they said there were 200 plungers who registered and over $28,000 was raised to benefit the Special Olympics. Whether or not you believe a Texas Polar Plunge counts, the money raised for charity definitely counted.

Here is a video of me going out into the water so you can experience my pain.

5000 Question Survey pt 2

Part Two

Again, I realize no one cares this much to read all of these answers. But I'm keeping myself honest and proving I did them!

101. What does happiness/joy feel like physically?
a flutter in the tummy and squeezing sensation in the chest, with a euphoric feeling in the head

102. List five people you love starting with the one you love the absolute most.

I'm so not ordering them by who I love the most so I'm naming my kids in order of their ages!

A  Jacob

B Gage

C Skyelar

D Qi

E Mia

103. How many movies have you gone to see this month?  1. Nebraska

104. If you could have 3 wishes...but none of them could be for yourself, what would you wish for?
50 Million dollars for my husband. Adoption fees for Marjorie. A car for Jacob.

105. In what ways do you relax and de-stress when you are really tense?
Taking a hot bath. Deep breathing.

106. How much money would it take to get you to drive to school naked in the springtime and get out of the car?
I'm almost 40. I'd be arrested immediately if I showed up naked at a school!

107. Have you ever killed an animal?
mosquitos, fleas, ticks, roaches, yes. Anything larger and no, not on purpose.

108. Have you ever lost someone close to you?
Yes. My grandparents that raised me. I was completely devastated when my grandma died.

109. What do you think of cloning?
I'd like a me to do dishes, a me to cook, a me who drives and can go take care of stuff, and a me to clean the house. I'd probably end up with 10 me's who all want to get on FB and watch Breaking Bad all the time though.

110. Do you read or watch TV more often?
I watch TV more often but I read a lot too

The 5000 question survey Pt 1

It was suggested to me by another lister that I should try to make my way through the 5000 Question Survey as part of my 101 Things challenge. I'm not going to do all 5000 at once, but 100 here and there when I remember. I'm not as interesting as you might think so please don't feel you need to read all of these answers. I'm just holding myself accountable here.

1. Who are you?  Marsha - the Houston Bucket Lister

2. What are the 3 most important things everyone should know about you?
I am probably going to try to rope you into doing something crazy if you are around me too long. I love halloween and bizarre things. I have a disturbing sense of humor sometimes.

3. When you aren't filling out 5,000 question surveys like this one what are you doing?
Trying to complete my bucket lists, learning new languages (but never being fluent), reading, Facebooking, making more lists.

4. List your classes in school from the ones you like the most to the ones you like the least (or if you are out of school, think of the classes you did like and didn't like at the time).
English, Theater, History, Art, Science, EVERYTHING ELSE, then math

5. What is your biggest goal for this year?
Traveling to England and Paris

6. Where do you want to be in 5 years?
A foreign country

7. What stage of life are you in right now?
The middle part

8. Are you more child-like or childish?
Child like I think, though others may disagree

9. What is the last thing you said out loud?
See if there's any cheese in the fridge

10. What song comes closest to how you feel about your life right now?
Put it Behind You - Keane

St Arnold's Bentley Ride probably a no go

This summer I went on a tour of the St Arnold's Brewery, which was amazing. The owner has a Bentley painted with the St Arnold's logo that sits outside. During the tour I asked if there was any way I could get a ride in it, and the tour guide said it was a real possibility. Apparently the owner gives people rides for special occasions and I would need to message him and let him know about my special occasion to arrange a ride. My 20th wedding anniversary with my husband is January 15th so I sent the owner a few messages letting him know about it and how much I would love to ride in the Bentley for my Houston Bucket List also. I thought a 20th wedding anniversary is pretty special, but maybe the owner is just busy or no longer doing the rides. I never heard anything back, and my anniversary is in just a few days, so I am assuming it is not going to happen. Regardless I loved my tour of St Arnold Brewery, and still happily support them and recommend other Houstonians to also do the tour. Maybe another time, right?

Radio Interview

Here is a link to a radio interview I did with a college radio station in Scotland last year (in May of 2013). I was extremely nervous the whole time but I think I did okay. I haven't done nearly as much as the guy who is interviewed after me, but I'm working on it! https://soundcloud.com/cityradioglasgow/adelle-bryant-bucketlists-gu
